The Banff Centre Music Creative Residency Programs for musicians are unique in the world. These residencies are self-directed and provide emerging and established artists with a period of focused time to concentrate on personal artistic development and work towards a specific project of their own choosing. This is the perfect opportunity for individual musicians or ensembles between concert engagements, having finished post-secondary education, on leave or sabbatical, preparing for performances, auditions, recordings, and competitions, or concentrating on composing.

Music Creative Residencies benefit artists who need time to realize a specific artistic project, who are contemplating changes in career direction, or who wish to explore new aspects of personal musical development. Residents shape their program under the guidance of the program director, and are given the opportunity to expand their artistic insights through interaction with both the distinguished guest artists (faculty) and other international musicians in the residency program. All residents have their own private studio space, which they can access any time they wish. Participants in the residencies receive artistic and career advice from well-established guest artists and may perform with them in the weekly concerts. There are opportunities for up to four performances a week on Banff Centre stages, as well as off campus.

Acceptance to residencies is based on several criteria, including the background of the artist, the merit of proposed artistic project, the ability of The Banff Centre to provide appropriate support, and the probability the artist will realize the project. Applicants are encouraged to apply for both Fall and Winter sessions.
