Sally Borden Winter Closure FAQ

Banff Centre will post updates to the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Facebook page as well as the Sally Borden web page. If there are any changes in its expected reopening date, those are the most reliable sources to find that information. 

To accommodate several important maintenance projects, Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation located at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will be closed from December 9, 2024 until an anticipated reopening date of January 4, 2025. This includes Banff Centre's organizational closure between Saturday, December 21, 2024 until Wednesday, January 1, 2025. This includes the Fitness Centre, Climbing Gym, and Aquatic Centre. We’ll strive to communicate updates as quickly and clearly as possible.

Over the past several months, there have been a series of sudden building closures due to plumbing and foundation issues in the building, causing frustration to staff, membership, and the Banff community in general. To prevent further disruptions, several maintenance projects need to be undertaken at the same time. The type and number of maintenance projects are what requires a prolonged, but necessary, pause in Sally Borden operations. Afterwards, Banff Centre is predicting a more stable schedule of open hours. We are deeply appreciative of your understanding and patience while Banff Centre addresses these issues.

We deeply appreciate your understanding as this urgent work is done in the Sally Borden building, which will prevent further sudden, short-term disruptions in operation. In thanks for your patience, Banff Centre will be extending Sally Borden monthly memberships for the length of the closure.

Town of Banff swimming lessons were scheduled to finish on November 22, 2024, before the planned closure of the Sally Borden Aquatic Centre at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Vistas Dining Room will also be closed during this time, reopening for dinner service on January 12, 2025.
