Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen anchors this afternoon concert of music & dialogue hosted by award-winning author Jeremy Eichler, joined by Banff Festival Strings. This unique concert presentation explores Eichler’s work in “Times Echo”, a book on music, war and memory with performance of Strauss’ Metamorphosen featuring 23 festival artists.

A writer, scholar and critic, Jeremy Eichler is the author of Time’s Echo, a celebrated new book on music, war and memory that was featured on best-of-2023 lists by The New York Times, The New Yorker, and NPR; named "History Book of the Year" by The Sunday Times of London; and awarded three National Jewish Book Awards including “Book of the Year”. This past spring, Eichler delivered endowed lectures or was a featured speaker at Yale, Tufts, Columbia, and the University of Virginia, and he served as humanist-in-residence at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. In May, he partnered with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg for a program celebrating the launch of the book’s German edition, one of eight foreign-language editions recently published or forthcoming. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and since 2006, he has served as chief classical music critic of The Boston Globe.
