Participants of all ages and levels of experience are invited to sketch and draw at Banff Centre’s free ongoing beginner-level drawing workshops. In this special edition of Drawn to Nature we will be joined by Elder Lillian Rose who will display her craft of basket weaving and the stories behind them. Our esteemed Teaching Artist in Residence Janice Tanton, using Lillian’s baskets as our primary drawing subjects, will help us explore different materials and techniques for mark making in this facilitated class. All classes encourage artistic exploration and conversation about the ways in which we interact with the cultural and geological landscapes of Banff National Park. The drawings and sketches produced from these sessions are invited to display in a Community Exhibition at the end of the year. Workshops are provided free of charge, all materials included.
Partners in this series include the Banff Park Museum, Cave and Basin National Historic Site, The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, and Banff Public Library.
Class locations vary so please be sure to check details and register in advance.
Please note that these bi-monthly workshops are not progressive and similar beginner skills and techniques will be taught each class.
