Hear new works created by some of the most exciting young performers at work today, featuring Ensemble Evolution participants and faculty performing works by George Lewis, Peter Evans, Matana Roberts, Cory Smythe and Mazz Swift. The works in this concert are created specifically for the musical personalities and instrumentation of the Ensemble Evolution residency, a component of Banff Centre’s summer music programs which prepares the 21st century musician by promoting artistic excellence, fostering social consciousness, and exploring community-building through music.

Each of the pieces are in the midst of the creation process making every new performance unique in its development and sound. During this performance musicians will have different levels of freedom in their pieces, from choices in pitch and rhythm to uninhibited improvisation. The works represent the individual voices of the composers but also take into consideration the input of the performers. These aren’t your traditionally notated and read works but will instead offer a more collaborative process between composer and performer.
