Join us for readings by writers in the Writers Trust  summer program, hosted by award-winning novelist and program faculty-member Lawrence Hill. 

The Writers’ Trust Rising Stars program is a multi-faceted career development program that recognizes talented authors in the early stages of their careers. Notable Canadian writers who are past Writers’ Trust beneficiaries each select one developing writer who is poised to produce exceptional and enduring creative work, and those selected are provided with a two-week residency at Banff Centre. Writers in residency are given time and space for to retreat, reconnect, and re-energize their writing practice. Join them as they share the work they've created with a public audience!

Lawrence Hill

Biography

Lawrence Hill is the author of ten books, including The Illegal and The Book of Negroes, winner of various awards including The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and CBC Radio’s Canada Reads. Hill delivered the 2013 Massey Lectures, based on his non-fiction book Blood: The Stuff of Life. He co-wrote the adaptation for the six-part television miniseries The Book of Negroes. He is currently writing new novel, as well as a screenplay adaptation of The Illegal for Conquering Lion Pictures. He volunteers with Crossroads International, the Black Loyalist Heritage Society and Project Bookmark Canada, and lives with his family in Hamilton, ON and in Woody Point, NL.

Lawrence Hill a publié dix livres, dont The Illegal et The Book of Negroes. Il a gagné de nombreux prix d’excellence, comme The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize et le prix Canada Reads de CBC. Il a présenté les conférences Massey en 2013 sur son ouvrage documentaire intitulé Blood: The Stuff of Life. Il a aussi corédigé une adaptation de The Book of Negroes pour une minisérie télévisée en six parties. Il rédige maintenant un nouveau roman ainsi qu’une adaptation de The Illegal pour le scénario d’un film de Conquering Lion Pictures. Il fait également du bénévolat pour Carrefour International, pour la Black Loyalist Heritage Society et pour Project Bookmark Canada. Il vit à Hamilton (ON) avec sa famille et à Woody Point (NL).
