Who is eligible to apply for the PTP stream of programming?

Eligibility varies depending on the discipline of the program, but it always requires formal training and/or relevant professional experience, as this is a continuing education program. Applicants should be emerging practitioners seeking applied experience and training within a residency/performance-based arts institution.

What does the training component involve?

Participants will engage in both practical instruction and applied learning through program projects. Depending on the program’s discipline, these may include technical workshops, lectures, shadowed sessions, and hands-on training.

What kind of support or mentorship will be provided during the program?

Participants will receive mentorship, instruction, and support from faculty, guests and Banff Centre professional staff. Given the training-focused nature of the program, mentors will be highly engaged to ensure the program’s learning goals and deliverables are met.

How is this different from previous “practicum” program iterations?

This new program is designed as a tuition-based training experience. Unlike previous practicum programs, PTP participants are registered as artists and treated and supported as equal peers within the same programs as residency artists. This integration enhances the learning experience and fosters collaboration. Participants will gain mentorship and practical experience while fully engaging in the artistic residency experience.

Why do participants have to pay now?

This is a new program developed with discreet tuition-based elements in which PTP participants are fully integrated into a program. In the past, practicums were not program participants. Now, PTP participants will benefit from being part of a specific arts program, supported by lead faculty who focus on their learning objectives whilst engaging with the program and coherently other participants.

What is meant by PTP being “fully integrated” into other Banff Centre programs?

“Fully integrated” means that acceptance into the PTP is connected to a specific arts discipline-based program. PTP participants will have unique technical and production-based learning opportunities while also engaging in certain components of the arts programs.

Can I pursue my own projects during the program?

The PTP stream of programming is focused on technical training and professional development. This is not a program for working on personal projects, participants are here to engage in applied learning and gain experience across a range of production areas, supporting Banff Centre’s programs, events, and performances.

Can I apply for PTP programs more than once?

Yes, you can apply for PTP programs multiple times or for different programs across disciplines.

How will participation in a PTP program benefit my career?

Participation in a PTP program provides emerging practitioners with valuable experience, enhancing their professional portfolio and expanding their network within the industry.
