Banff Centre Radio launches Mountain Culture radio stations in English and French on June 23
Banff, Alberta, June 17, 2014 -- The Banff Centre is proud to announce the launch of Banff Centre Radio - two new radio stations set to hit the airwaves at 8:00am (MST) on Monday June 23 on 101.1FM in English and 103.3FM in French. Both stations will share stories exploring mountain culture as experienced by the diverse communities, both local and visiting, in Banff National Park. Banff Centre Radio will also be available online in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise.
Banff Centre Radio 101 will host a number of original programs custom created for the station and hosted by members of the Bow Valley community. Programs are centered on mountain culture and cover varying topics including art, politics, ecology, indigenous culture, environment, local history, science, sport, and health & wellness. Radio Banff Centre 103 is a French-language tourism information service, providing information to visitors about Banff, the National Park and the Bow Valley. Both stations will also highlight the new ideas and art created every day at The Banff Centre.
Banff Centre Radio 101 hosts 16 programs including:
Rocky Mountain Morning - 101FM’s flagship live morning radio program, Rocky Mountain Morning is for locals and visitors alike. Host Meg Wilcox (see Biography) prepares you for the weekday ahead with 60 minutes of live interviews, music, commentary, news and information.
Good Sport - For sports enthusiasts, Good Sport, hosted by Jim Olver, discovers the joys of sport and the motivations that drive people to pursue it. Writer Range - Join Mojo Anderson for Writers Range, a co-production with the Banff Public Library, where she engages in conversation with writers and connects their craft to mountain culture, landscape, and the environment.
Basecamp - Basecamp sees Gripped magazine’s editor-in-chief Brandon Pullan profiling amateur and professional climbers and engages them in group discussions about the issues and topics that keep climbers talking.

About Banff Centre Radio: The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission granted two radio programming licenses to The Banff Centre in July 2013. The application was made to continue and build on the operations of the two Park Radio information services stations, which had been on the air for 17 years under the management of the Friends of Banff National Park fellowship. The applications were made with the full support of the Friends, of members of Banff Town Council, and of community stakeholders.
Banff Centre Radio 101.1FM is an English-language station and will explore mountain culture and life in Banff National Park. It is targeting the local resident with community focused programming, and is enticing Banff’s three to four million annual visitors with a mix of cultural programming, tourism information, and music. Expect to hear everything from local ski conditions to what it’s like to summit Mount Everest, or come face to face with a mountain lion.
Radio Banff Centre 103.3FM is a French-language tourism information service, providing timely and relevant information to visitors about what’s happening in the Bow Valley, as well as the resources visitors need to navigate Banff National Park and enjoy everything it has to offer. A portion of the programming will be dedicated to French-language interviews with artists and newsmakers.
