The annual Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival signature image represents the best in mountain adventure images from around the world. Each year we put the call out for images through a public competition and receive a diverse range of inspirational mountain images.

This year, we are pleased to announce that the 41st annual Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival will be represented by Thomas Senf’s image of professional alpinist Ines Papert. This action shot was captured by Senf on a climbing expedition to Senja Island, Norway’s second largest island.

“It was our second trip to Senja Island in northern Norway. A year before, Ines Papert had spotted that line while establishing another first ascent at the wall. Senja stands for wilderness, loneliness, adventure, and beauty. All of these qualities came together that day. This is why I go out with my camera time and time again, to capture moments like these.”
