Leanna Brodie’s plays, including The Vic, For Home and Country, The Book of Esther, and Schoolhouse, have been performed across Canada. Salesman in China (co-written with Jovanni Sy) recently premiered at the Stratford Festival and National Arts Centre to great acclaim, winning the QWF Prize for best new play. Brodie is also a leading translator of Québécois and Franco-Canadian playwrights. Recent premieres have included David Paquet’s The Weight of Ants and The Shoe (The Cherry Arts, Ithaca NY); Catherine Léger's Home Deliveries (Ruby Slippers Theatre/Jericho Arts Centre, Vancouver); David Paquet's Wildfire (Factory Theatre, Toronto and Upstream Theater, St. Louis MO); Fanny Britt's Benevolence (GCTC, Ottawa); Sébastien Harrisson's From Alaska (Belfry Theatre, Victoria), and Rébecca Déraspe's I Am William (Stratford Festival). Her translations have won the PGC Tom Hendry Award and a Dora Mavor Moore Award. Her libretti include Anthony Young's Flourish Prize-winning Ulla's Odyssey, which toured the UK with OperaUpClose. Brodie is currently writing a new play for the Blyth Festival and translating Rébecca Déraspe’s Those Who Have Vanished (The Search Party) and Nathalie Doummar’s Sissi (Ruby Slippers).
